Artist Note _Saeyeon Kim
Born in the bustling city of Seoul, Korea, and moving to the United States at the age of six, her life took a dramatic turn early on. Growing up as an Asian girl in a different culture was challenging, and she often felt like an outsider. These experiences, however, became the foundation of her distinct perspective and individuality.
In her everyday life, she comes across as rational and bright, a beacon of intellect. But hidden within is a darker side, a well of deep emotions and dreams waiting to be expressed. This hidden world finds its voice through her art—a canvas where her inner thoughts run free, unrestricted by the conventions of the outside world.
Her art is inspired by life itself, a tapestry woven from her experiences, loves, and the myriad details that catch her eye. She observes the world with keen attention, often featuring living beings like people, plants, and animals in her work. With pens, acrylics on canvas or paper, and digital tools, she lets her creativity flow naturally, unencumbered by overthinking or rigid plans. This freedom is the essence of her art, a testament to her independent spirit.
As she grew, she embraced her differences, seeing them not as barriers but as unique threads in the fabric of her identity. Her journey has become a celebration of everyday life and the courage to face challenges without fear. Through her art, she invites others to see the world as she does—a place where emotions and dreams intertwine, and the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary.

This editorial piece explores the concerning reality of indoor air pollution in gyms. Contrary to the common belief that exercising indoors is healthier than outdoors, studies have shown that gyms often contain high levels of airborne dust, formaldehyde, and carbon dioxide. These concentrations frequently surpass accepted standards for indoor air quality, particularly during evening aerobics classes. In these sessions, the combination of tightly packed spaces, increased physical activity, and heavy breathing exacerbates the problem, stirring up dust and releasing more fumes and carbon dioxide. This piece challenges the perception of gyms as a healthier alternative, highlighting that indoor air pollution can be just as detrimental as outdoor pollution.
