Artist NOTE _ Kim Bom
I am Bom Kim, an artist working with Screen Printing Rather than digital drawing,
I create my work by drawing directly on paper using colored pencils, pastels,
and pens, embracing their tactile qualities,
and then layering and printing these images through multiple overlays.
The process of repeatedly building up layers to form an unpredictable image
closely relates to the act of recalling and recording fragments of memory and inner landscapes.
The softly trembling marks and overlapping clusters of color appear
as condensed forms of emotion and memory.
Rather than forming a complete landscape, they exist
as fragmented scenes—pieces of memory.
My “landscape fragments” function as individual units containing memory and emotion,
while also representing portions of a larger,
whole landscape that have been extracted
and preserved. When these fragments leave me
and are placed in a different space, they merge with the viewer’s present moment,
no longer remaining as past scenes but reconstituting themselves
into new landscapes within each individual’s time.
Ultimately, my work is an attempt to remember and
hold onto what has already passed through the acts of drawing and layering.
I hope that these landscapes may offer a small moment of comfort—allowing someone,
on a difficult and weary day, to briefly drift into a place within their own memories.
