Kimi Jaak’s distinctive paintings strike a
perfect balance, captivating audiences at first
glance. Through her richly colored oil
creations, she breathes life into hermaphro
ditic athletes, depicting them in voluminous
forms that exude energy and dynamism.

KIMIJAAK
Rather than describing the object itself,
I place more importance on the composition behind it and
its surroundings while removing unnecessary elements.
I'm immersed in flattening my perspective, omitting nonessential details,
and creating real and concrete forms.
Perhaps that's why the strong contrast of colors in my work often creates surreal feelings rather than realistic ones.
Based on the sense of 'unfamiliarity',
I would like to talk about the modern person behind anonymity through a symbolic figure called
'John Doe', which refers to an unidentified unspecified object in the West.
The characters on the screen have exaggerated bodies,
small and fragile limbs, and missing features.
These images metaphorically reflect a modern society that is obsessed with specifications
and appearance rather than the value of labor.
They are also my own fictional self-portraits.
The brief experience of living as strangers in a strange land allowed me to look at another reality
and identity that I face in my daily life from the perspective of strangers.
After all, this work is an attempt to reveal the existence and
stories of individual human beings, even in the context of anonymity and alienation.
