The basis for the work came from the words of astronomer Carl Sagan. I have been depicting twinkling star-like images in my works for a long time, and my father said, ‘Your paintings are based on facts.’ He said, ‘We are the descendants of stars, and elements such as iron in our bodies and the atoms that make up DNA are from the stars of the past. He quoted Carl Sagan as saying, 'We were created from the stars and are composed of star dust, and through death we return to the remains of the stars.' I focused on the essentials that Carl Sagan sees.
To me, a person is not simply flesh, blood, and organs, but a being made up of emotions, thoughts, experiences, and memories, and I began to express this as star fragments.Various icons appear in the work, with water and flowers being the main themes. The water contains both calm and rough waves and expresses various emotions of people. Flowers are somewhat scary and disgusting to me. If you look closely, the vein-like leaf veins, hair, and spots feel disgusting. Sometimes I wonder if this is pretty, but when I look at it quietly, it is so lovely. In this way, we capture the many facets of life and express them by connecting them to our lives.By interpreting our lives as fragments of flowers and stars, we created the concept of flower shooting stars. Yoosung in lifeIt means an intrusive relationship. Intertwined and conflicting with desired and unwanted relationships, including hurt and happiness. It captures multifaceted aspects.
The gaze was chosen as the role of conveying the message of the work. A glance can convey more than a thousand words, and this can be conveyed regardless of language, place, or time. I express the essence through my work. While going through a therapeutic process of observation and expression, I also put the feeling of comforting myself and others in the work.
