Cho Woo Bin

I create paintings that record the events, thoughts, or emotions I experience each day. Catch and record the passing time as if you were writing a diary. The desire to talk about these things and the desire not to talk about them coexist. So, I replace the story with another object and bring it into the painting. They are largely made up of things found in everyday life. I appear in the painting disguised as an object I created. Objects arbitrarily paired with meaning like this make up a story. The space where objects in a painting are placed has meaning in the act of creating a painting. The act implies time. When carving a tree, growth rings hidden within the tree bark are revealed. Tree rings contain the time a tree has gone through. In order to capture the physical time of creating a painting in form, I piled up several layers of paint on the panel. The color and viscosity of the paint was selected, applied and ground depending on the occasion or mood. Those choices piled up to create an unintentional image. Unlike objects with thoroughly calculated composition, this is accidental. Coincidence and inevitability in my paintings resemble our daily lives.
