Louise Kwon

'Aromatherapy' is a psychological aroma therapy that heals and restores the mind with plants. The characters in the work are surrounded by flowers that are raw materials for actual perfume and aromatherapy, such as roses, lilies, orange blossoms, and lavender. They are a modern reinterpretation of the flower goddess 'Flore' and the spring goddess 'Primavera' from Greek mythology, symbolizing a return to the past and being an object of aestheticism. It uses 'pure duration' and 'transtemporal moment' as important motifs in 'Marcel Proust's novel. What I tried to express through this motif is “the resonance effect that can be felt when the past experience that scent brings into our daily life and the present experience are juxtaposed.” In addition, “the time experience and subjective reality captured by the senses, and the moment when a memory related to it is evoked by a specific scent, is a common transtemporal impression of the past and present and makes us realize the essence of existence.” In this way, in olfactory works, we hope that viewers will be connected to past 'memories' through 'olfactory' elements, and like Proust's, we hope that they will remember happy moments when 'the horizon in my mind opens up in an instant' through the works.
