The 'Still Life' series is a series carefully selected and collected by the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in 2021, focusing on contemporaneity. 'Still Life' is a photographic work that expresses something that is not real as if it were real, with the motif of 17th century Dutch still life painting. Expands the meaning of ‘Still, Life’ through the work.
The artist mainly works using a tool called a camera. Borrowing compositions from 17th-century Dutch still-life paintings as well as folk paintings from the Joseon Dynasty, the artist expresses images ignoring perspective using a digital photo collage method, creating a space between photographs and paintings, reality and unreality. We are creating a world of In that world, a sloth, a projection of the artist himself, is resting on a tree, and hummingbirds and butterflies are flying among the flowers.
“I like works with humor. Although he is a quiet person in daily life, he is always looking for fun things to do. I don't show my emotions easily in real life. “Art is a way to reveal my joy.” (From the author's interview)
The author majored in the Department of Media and Public Relations at Yonsei University and returned to Korea after graduating with a master's degree from the Royal College of Art in England. The artist's series of works were exhibited in Soho, England, via Berlin and Paris, with the support of famous British designer Paul Smith.
