Jeah Hyuck
People all assimilate into society so as not to become strangers. In order to become a member of society, we only show ourselves like others and suppress our inner sincerity, desires, and thoughts. My work shows a gap between society and the back that has been oppressed by society. I tried to erase myself and act like them in order to live abroad and assimilate with them as strangers. But the actions that erase me were rather actions that proved me to be a different type from them, but I wasn't them. Rather, the way I assimilated with them there began by acknowledging me as a stranger and finding myself. I immediately wrote down different ideas that came up using automation techniques to find me, and the other ideas that came out contained the suppressed inner side of society. In it, I could see the cries of things that had been suppressed in society, such as desires, desires, and desires.
Through this process, I give off the thoughts that have been suppressed, objectify me from the perspective of others, and look at me and find the true me inside. My work contains these double figures, the words layered in the colorful abstract images, our backside and our suppressed other ideas. It's also a Western technique and shape work, but if you look at the materials in it, oriental materials and doors and paint that express myself growing up with my parents who are architects are in conflict with each other. This reveals the duality between reality and the other inner side, expressing a sense of inner disparity that contrasts with reality. We always hide ourselves to be like others. My other work reveals our dual appearance and inner side without filtration, showing the audience the bare face of things that we did not realize in reality. Recognizing us as strangers; looking at yourself through the eyes of an objectified other is the process of finding the true self. We're always thinking about something else. It's a different idea.
