Ryu Noa
The modern society we live in is changing rapidly, and modern people are being swept along with the flow. We are unable to resist capitalism and experience great confusion about our identity as we are caught up in feelings of loneliness, emptiness, and alienation that arise from the endless desires we feel in an endlessly competitive social structure. Human desires are desires caused by others, and deficiencies arising from others are never filled and are reproduced repeatedly. Desire is said to be the best and worst power a person has. It is created repeatedly, is not filled with anything, and I am living a wandering life, losing myself and becoming a slave to my desires. ‘One thing, all things, one thing’ One form contains many other forms, and even if it is a complex form, it returns to one form. Wishes, goals, dreams, desires, and demands are all desires. Desire is the fundamental element that gives us a sense of existence and can be said to be the essence of human life. The most common definition of ‘monster’ is something that deviates from the normal appearance, behavior, or characteristics of an animal or human. A monster is an unreal being whose symbolic characteristics of form and image are vague and abstract, and when I transfer my desires and emotions to it, it is a being that does not feel any sense of guilt or fear even if it deviates from social moral norms.
In the real world, it wasn't easy to vent your emotions to someone. In my work, the monster is also my self-portrait and represents modern people. We must not forget that desire, which is the driving force of an individual's life and human life, is fleeting and useless, like firecrackers that rise high and explode spectacularly for a split second. Where there is light, there is darkness, and where there is high, there is low. If there is happiness, there is unhappiness, and if there is hope, there is also despair. If there are rich, there are poor. Everyone wants to be at peace, but he cannot always be at peace. The world where monsters live is noisy, complex, and colorful. Has the barrier been released for a moment and monsters have come to our world? Is the modern society we live in a world of monsters? When I was young, I heard that monsters lived in big, fancy cities. When I grew up, I left my hometown and moved to a big city, where I actually met monsters. Some cut off my nose, others were hiding something cold and sharp under a gentle mask, I hurt them as much as they hurt me, I chased money and was chased by money on the other hand, I ate once and was eaten again, and before I knew it, a monster began to grow inside me. The factory, driven by my desire, is still creating various monsters. Oh my, look at these awesome monsters.
